Customs and Border Protection Guide

Category: Customs

Traveling abroad is trendy. However, people may encounter many unexpected troubles because of diverse regulations of different countries.

For instance, as it is widely known, once traveling abroad, one has to come back at a set time. It would be rather troublesome if you unintentionally exceed the time restriction. Here are some useful information about customs and border protection.

To understand customs and border protection, you must firstly know the customs clearance system.

Passing the custom clearance is a must at all entry checkpoints. Generally, there are two channels for incoming travelers: the red one and the green one. Red is for those who carry prohibited goods or any goods without being mentioned in the GST (Goods and Services Tax) relief & duty free concession. Green is for people who don't bring the above-mentioned goods. You must choose the right channel honestly and voluntarily.

If you choose the green one, it means that you do not need declare to the customs officers. Nevertheless, they will also check your goods occasionally. Otherwise, you should orally declare to the officers all of the above-mentioned items you carry, which is annoying and time-consuming.

In case you are not sure about the classification of goods and whether your items need declaring or not, you'd better check them at the red channel. Customs officers will require you to unpack your bag and take the X-ray check.

Make sure you are fully aware of the GST relief and duty-free concession conditions.

For instance, if you claim your refund of GST paid on your purchases, please present the GST claim form, Global Refund Check (receiving from the retailer) and the goods for inspection at the Tax Refund Counter at the Departure Hall.

Plus, if you need to take medicine due to your own physical conditions, you should possess the physician's prescription or certification.

Above are just some major points a traveler needs to know if he wants to go abroad. Wish you a smooth and pleasant journey!
