If I am taking essential medication in my carry-on bag, what shall I do?

Category: Carry-on luggage requirements

You can carry a wide range of prescription and over-the-counter medications (in liquids, gel, or aerosol forms) onto airplanes, including petroleum jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes.
You are not limited in the amount (size is not limited to 3-oz. containers) of these items. And non-liquid or gel medications of all kinds such as solid pills, or inhalers are allowed through the security checkpoint once they have been screened. The following information is for customers traveling by Lufthansa or Singapore Airlines.

Lufthansa
Medications packaging should be proof against knocks and shocks. Sometimes flights can be diverted or their departure is delayed for a long time - even if you are already sitting in the aircraft, so it is advisable to take in your carry-on luggage about one-and-a-half to twice the amount you expect to need.

If you have medications and injection needles in your carry-on luggage, you should have a doctor's certificate which confirms that it is medical material for personal needs.

Singapore Airlines
You should carry medications in your carry-on baggage into the aircraft cabin, if you are taking medications. Medication should have a professionally printed label identifying the medication or a pharmaceutical label affixed. It is advisable to retain medication in original containers supplied by the pharmacy. If you need to carry needles or syringes onto the airplane, you should get a medical certificate from your medical practitioner.
