Before boarding the plane, passengers and their baggage are required to be checked and go through the security check.
I.Check-in
Adults should show valid government-issued photo identification such as passport or driver's license.
Travelers are required to show a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.
Paper ticket or e-ticket confirmation is also required (you can print it on the airline website or ask for one at the ticket counter).
Tips:
Arrive at the airport at least one or two hours beforehand.
Don't leave your belongings unattended when heading to the check-in counters.
II. Screener checkpoint
Airports adopt X-ray screener, explosive trace dictation and metal detection devices to inspect baggage and parcels and passengers. You should know what you can and cannot bring before you go.
Prohibited Items
Prohibited items include flammable liquid, gel, or aerosol, paint, explosive materials, flammable items (common lighters allowed in carry-on bag), flares, gun powder, disabling chemicals and other dangerous items.
Carry-on Items
You may carry light items including a handbag or laptop. (For more info on this topic see article Carry-on Restrictions).
Checked Items
Knives and other sharp objects, liquids, gels and aerosols in container larger than 100mil, sporting goods, guns and firearms, tools over 7 inches, martial arts and self defense items should be packed in checked baggage.
Tips:
Check the airline luggage tags.
Put all metal objects (such as coins) in the basket provided, or in your bag, or on the convey belt before walking through the security metal detector.
Don't bring a wrapped gift. You could wrap it after your trip.
Don't carry any thing for others, especially people you don't even know.
III. Tips for quick airport security check
1. Prepare all the paper work
Ticket, boarding pass, license, passport and all the other possible paper work should be collected and put together in a portfolio orderly. Fumbling up and down, in and out is definitely a minus to your public image and a trouble to your trip.
2. Dump all prohibited items
Research on the airport you are going to depart from, and pay close attention to the prohibited item list. You'd better leave at home those items which you are not sure if they are safe or not.
3. Dress properly
Avoid wearing clothes that contain too much metal lest they set off the metal alarm. In that case, you'll be required to have an individual or additional private checking, which will cost more time.
Never place undeveloped film in your checked baggage, place them in your carry-on baggage. Or you can request a hand inspection.
5. Put valuables in your carry-on bags
Cash, financial documents, jewelry, electronic devices, and other valuables should be kept in your pockets or in your carry-on bags, and be prepared that electronics like camera, iPod, laptop, cell phone may need to be inspected or demonstrated.
