1. Liquids, gels and aerosols
Carry-on or Checked: 3 oz containers or smaller, in a 1 quart (1 liter), plastic zip-top bag, baby formula, breast milk and baby food, medications, liquids or gels for diabetic or other medical needs
Checked: Other liquids, gels and aerosols over 3 oz
2. Personal items
Carry-on or Checked: cigar cutters, corkscrews, cuticle cutters, eyeglass repair tools, eyelash curlers, knitting and crochet needles, nail clippers, nail files, safety razors, scissors, toy transformer robots, toy weapons, tweezers, umbrellas, walking canes
Checked: knives, snow globes
3. Medication and special needs devices
Carry-on or Checked: Braille note-taker, slate and stylus, augmentation devices, diabetes, nitroglycerine pills or spray for medical use, prosthetic device tools and appliances, ostomy scissors
4. Sharp objects
Carry-on or Checked: scissors
Checked: box cutters, ice axes/ice picks, knives, meat cleavers, razor-type blades, sabers, swords
5. Sporting goods
Checked: baseball bats, bows and arrows, cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, spear guns
6. Firearms, guns and ammunition
Checked: ammunition, BB guns, compressed air guns, parts of guns and firearms, pellet guns, realistic replicas of firearms, starter pistols
Prohibited: firearms, flare guns, gun powder
7. Tools
Carry-on or Checked: tools of seven inches in length or less, such as wrenches and pliers
Checked: tools longer than seven inches, such as axes and hatchets, cattle prods, crowbars, hammers, drills and drill bits, saws
8. Martial arts/ self-defense items
Checked: Billy Clubs, Black Jacks, brass knuckles, Kubatons, Mace/Pepper Spray (one 118 ml or 4 fl. oz. container equipped with a safety mechanism), martial arts weapons, night sticks, nanchakus, stun guns/shocking devices, throwing stars
9. Explosive materials
Prohibited: blasting caps, dynamite, fireworks, flares, hand grenades, plastic explosives, realistic replicas of explosives
10. Flammable items
Carry-on: common lighters
Prohibited: aerosol, fuels, gasoline, gas torches, lighter fluid, torch lighters, strike-anywhere matches, turpentine paint thinner, realistic replicas of incendiaries
11. Disabling chemicals and dangerous items
Prohibited: Chlorine for pools and spas, compressed gas cylinder, liquid bleach, spillable batteries, spray paint, tear gas
12. Electronic devices
Carry-on or Checked: camcorders, camera equipment, laptop computers, mobile phones, pagers, personal data assistants (PDAs)
13. Alcohol
Checked: alcohol bought outside the security checkpoint
Prohibited: over 70% alcohol content
14. Batteries (new)
Carry-on: spare batteries
Carry-on or Checked: batteries installed in devices
