Tips for Comfort and Safety in the Airplane Cabin

Category: Airline Travelling & Tips

Nowadays, more and more people choose to travel by air, especially for long distance trips.
Comfort and safety in the airplane cabin are two elements passengers concern the most. Here are some tips to ensure a comfortable and safe flight.

1. Tips for comfort in the airplane cabin
Organs comfort

Don't eat too much and choose light food, because your organs can't digest too much for changes in air pressure.

Drink plenty of water during the flight and avoid alcohol and caffeine-containing drinks which accelerate the dehydration of your body.

Bring chewing gum to alleviate ear-popping, flight stress and anxiety.

Limbs comfort

Use two pillows to ease soreness of your back and neck, putting one between your back and the seat, the other behind your neck.

Don't cross your legs when seated. You can do a periodic massage for yourself in the seat and gently circle your head and feet.

When the seatbelt light is off, you'd better get up, stretch your arms and legs and walk around the plane. Keeping the same posture for a long time will lead to muscle cramps and perhaps even a blood clot, which may be fatal if it travels to the heart or lungs.

With extra room for leg and foot, seats in bulkheads and exit rows are better choices for tall persons.

Wear loose fitting clothes and shoes. Because dining and drinking in flight may make you feel bloated, it's not comfortable to wear tight clothes. Loose shoes will be easily taken off when your feet swell.

Skin comfort

Take some creams to moisturize your face and hands in the dry cabin.

2. Tips for safety in the airplane cabin
The foremost principle for safety on the flight is to follow the instructions of the crew all the time and stay calm in any situation. If you're not clear about the instructions, ask questions. Once you find anything unusual, immediately report to the crew.

Review the safety information card at the beginning of the flight and pay attention to oral safety briefing and demonstration of the crew.

Read the list of hazardous materials provided with your flight information and do what you are requested to.

The nearest emergency exits are in different locations depending on the plane you board and the seat you take. After you enter the plane, find out the locations of all exits and visualize the route of emergency evacuation.

Properly store all your carry-on items. You'd better put heavy ones on the ground rather than in the storage bin. In heavy turbulence, overhead storage may cause danger.

Turbulence happens unpredictably, so keep your seat belt bulked for extra protection.

Synthetics clothes such as rayon, polyester, and nylon will melt when heated, while natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and leather offer the best protection during an evacuation or fire on plane.

Children should sit away from the aisle. Kids like to reach out and explore, so their little arms and legs may get bumped by people or serving cart passing down the aisle, and of course you should keep your eye on your children all the time.
