Things to Take in a Train Trip

There's probably no universal check list for things you should not forget to take on a train.
But there is this 'universal' strategy that you can use to try putting together a checklist that answers to your own need - imagine a virtual trip in your mind, step by step, and always ask questions to yourself such as "What things can be wrong if I cannot board the train?", "There must be views on the way. What do I need to fully enjoy them?"

The following are some things we manage to put together. And as you'll find, we always prepare for the worst, lol.

Tickets
Of course! Without tickets, you cannot board! Keep them in a safe and easy-to-find place in case of check.

Luggage
Pack luggage especially the carry-on bags and backpacks as lightly as possible so that you will have everything you need on the road and won't be bothered by their heaviness. Then putting a luggage lock on every piece of luggage can prevent the stuff inside from being stolen. Use zipper ties to ensure your zippered luggage, purse or carry-ons safe.
Don't forget to stick an identification tag that says your name, phone number and address onto every piece of luggage in case your luggage are lost or wrongly taken by somebody else.

Map
It is a good idea to take with you a map of the rail lines, scenic spots you will pass by or visit. If you are planning to join a destination-visit train travel, a map of the destination is quite necessary. If you are going to have a total sight-seeing trip, a map with instructions shows the scene on the way will give you an impressive learning and viewing experience.

Binoculars & Camera
When it comes to a viewing trip on the train, a pair of binoculars and camera with video function could help viewing far and recording picturesque scenes.

Book & Cards
You may find it useful to take a good book when you feel bored on the train and nobody to chat with. A deck of cards is specially suitable for train travelers, because there is normally a table for each four passengers.
Or you can play cards with the people in club/salon cars and may make several travel buddies.

Sleeping stuff
If you are a night train traveler, a light blanket can be a great helper that protects you against cold when taking a nap. Pillows can be used to support your neck and head when you sit long or have a sleep. Earplugs or an eyeshade are also essential if you are a light sleeper or you are about to sleep in noise surroundings.
