Your baggage and personal belongings can be lost, stolen or damaged during your travel.
So baggage insurance in travel insurance policies is very necessary. Baggage insurance is included in most comprehensive travel insurance policies, but it is rare to purchase it separately.

It is relatively hard to get reimbursement for jewelry, eyewear, electronics, and photographic equipment in baggage insurance. If your baggage is checked for a flight, baggage insurance generally from $600 to $3,000 is already covered by the airline. If you have special or valuable luggage, you can also choose supplemental "excess valuation" insurance directly from the airline.

Trip cancellation insurance often covers lost or damaged baggage. Insurance for your expensive items in baggage like digital devices, binoculars and medicines you care much about may be worth the price. If you travel for business, items such as business computers and other work-related devices are probably not covered in your travel insurance policies.

According to some insurance companies' policies, you will be covered up to about $700 on a standard policy or more than $900 with superior cover for lost of baggage. And it also covers the loss of passport documents, delayed baggage and money.

Insurance policies always have some conditions that you should keep in mind. For example, you should take all practical steps to recover articles lost or stolen.
Any claimed item because of damage shall be retained for inspection and forwarded to the insurer at the expense of the insurer. And all the claimed items for loss should be reported to the police within 24 hours. The report must be obtained. There are also thousands of policies related to "what is not covered." Ensure that you check them carefully.

Keep in mind that when you buy a travel insurance, check if it covers baggage insurance and coverage even after your trip. Double-check the particulars with your agent of what is not covered and conditions.
