Have you ever heard that luggage problems have increased about 5% amongst air travel? What a nightmare for air travelers!
When arriving at the destination airport without your luggage, you must be frustrating. Once notice your luggage is lost, you should immediately report to the lost service desk at the airport. You will be required to submit your original luggage claim slip and tickets. And the luggage could possibly be found in another airport by using the international Luggage Track System. Most airlines can find your missing luggage in about 100 days. If it still cannot be found by track system within 3 to 5 days, you need to send the airport a complete inventory form that can be received when you complete your report so that they can search further.
Your baggage is defined as "delayed" for 21 days after you claim it as missing. This situation normally happens in transit airlines, especially when the transit time between connecting flights is short. But don't panic! The Luggage Track System can track down about 98% of the luggage misrouted and return them within hours.
If you find that your baggage doesn't come off the conveyor belt, report this as soon as possible to the airline. Ask them to fill out a form and get a copy of that. Get an appropriate phone number for following up (not the reservation number). Ask whether they will charge you for delivering your bags when they are found. The fee may depend on how long it takes to track down your bags and return them to you. And remember that if you cannot solve the claim with the airline staff, keep a record of the names of them and hold all the travel documents and receipts.
Damaged
If you find your suitcase damaged, the airline will normally reimburse for repair. If it cannot be fixed, the airline will pay you its depreciated value. However, they won't pay for the damage caused by the fragile nature of broken items or inappropriate packing. They may also refuse to give you money for your damaged items inside the bag. If only the bag or suitcase is damaged, some airlines will replace it with a new one from their stores. In addition, remember to hold the original receipts of your items in bag in case the airline asks for.
