Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. Its aviation industry has advanced step by step with the overall economy.
People's need for air services is becoming ever greater as the region's trade-oriented economy booms and people's leisure and business travel requirements rise.

The first powered flight on 18 March of 1911 marked an vital moment in the aviation history of Hong Kong. The honour of making that flight went to Charles den Bron. This aeroplane was named as Spirit of Sha Tin.

Carrying only one passenger, the first commercial passenger flight into Kai Tak Airport was made in 1936. Then the government set up the first domestic airline company. And the growth in commercial aviation continued until the outbreak of World War II. The commercial flights to Kai Tak resumed in 1945 after the war.

In 1962 its passenger terminal was completed and a huge variety of aeroplanes operated through Kai Tak. It had handled over twenty-four million passengers and nearly one and a half million tons of cargo a year before it finally retired in 1998.
And this age-old important airport gradually became an international airport, renamed Hong Kong International Airport.

Later as the new Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok began its service, Hong Kong was on the threshold of a new era of aviation. Now Hong Kong International Airport is the focus of all international travel in and out of Hong Kong with twenty-four hour service and has won a number of notable international "Best Airport" awards. It embodies the latest technology and still leaves room for future innovations.
