Irish Airline Baggage Rules: Free Baggage, Excess Baggage & Special Baggage

All Irish airlines strictly formulate baggage rules for passengers' comfort and safety. So you'd better learn the rules to avoid bustlingly repacking your luggage in the busy airport.

As airline baggage rules vary according to different airline companies, it may be a necessary aspect to consider when choosing airlines.

Here we provide you luggage allowance of main Irish airlines.

Free Baggage Allowance

Cabin/Hand Baggage
Irish national airline Aer Lingus allows one hand luggage piece with maximum dimensions of 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm and the weight under 6 kg per passenger.

Irish largest low-cost airline Ryanair allows each passenger to carry one piece of baggage up to 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm with the weight of no more than 10 kg.

And one piece of cabin baggage with the maximum dimensions of 43 cm x 28 cm x 20 cm and the weight under 7 kg is permitted per passenger of Aer Arann.

CityJet allows each traveler to carry one hand baggage no more than 115 cm in size and 7 kg in weight. Infants are not allowed to carry hand baggage.

Check-in Baggage
Aer Lingus offers a maximum of 2 bags with the weight not exceed 36 kg in total free check-in luggage per passenger for economy class to/from USA.

For those premier class passengers to/from USA, each person can have 2 items of baggage and the weight of any one piece of baggage under 32 kg or combined at 64 kg.

For Ireland/UK/Europe flights, a maximum of 20 kg in total baggage weight per passenger is permitted.

Ryanair and Aer Arann both allow up to 15 kg of check-in baggage per person.

CityJet restricts check-in luggage allowance of up to 30 kg for executive trip and up to 20 kg for leisure trip per passenger. And Flying Blue customers of CityJet have additional allowances of 5 kg Silver, 10 kg Gold, 20 kg Platinum Members.

Excess Baggage Fee
If your luggage is overweight, you will have to pay extra. Generally, Aer Lingus' excess baggage charges per kg is ?9.

For those passengers traveling with Ryanair, excess luggage will be charged a per kilo fee.

Special Luggage
All Irish airlines have regulations of special luggage, such as medical machines, music instruments, sports equipments, pets and so on.
