Korean Airlines Carry-on & Checked Baggage Allowance

Category: Airline & Luggage By Countries

Before you go, it is essential to know about the baggage policy of your airline, both carry-on and checked baggage. Carry-on baggage is what you carry onboard an aircraft cabin.
In addition to the approved carry-on baggage, each customer may have 1-2 checked pieces free of charge. Free baggage allowances may vary depending on your carrier, itinerary, seating class etc.

Carry-on Baggage Allowance

1. Korean Air
Each first and prestige class passenger may carry 2 pieces of luggage within 18kg (40lbs). The hand baggage should fit in the overhead compartments or under the passenger's seat. The maximum dimensions should not exceed 115cm (45 inches).

Each economy class passenger may carry 1 piece of luggage plus 1 additional item within 12kg (25lbs). The maximum dimensions should not exceed 115cm (45 inches). Additional item refers to a small piece such as a laptop computer, briefcase, purse, etc.

Due to the strengthened security measures, for flights departing from the United States and/or connecting to a U.S. domestic flight, all passengers will be restricted to one piece of carry-on baggage and one additional item.

2. Asiana Airlines
For first and business class, Asiana Airlines allows 2 pieces of carry-on baggage less than 10kg (22lbs) or within the dimension of 115cm. The maximum width is 40cm, length 55cm and height of 23cm. Travel class will be limited to 1 piece.

Checked Baggage Allowance

1. Korean Air
For domestic flights prestige class, Korean Air will allow 30kg (66lbs) of checked baggage free of charge and economy class 30kg (66lbs) per passenger.

For international flights first class, Korean Air will allow 40kg (88lbs) checked baggage, prestige class will have an allowance of 30kg (66lbs) and economy class will be limited to 20kg (44lbs) per passenger.

However, regulations will be more complicated for flights departing from or arriving at America: First and prestige class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage that cannot exceed 32kg (70lbs) per piece, less than 158cm (62 inches) each. In Economy Class, customers are allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage. The maximum weight per piece is 23kg (50lbs), less than 158cm (62 inches) each and, not exceeding 273cm (107 inches) all together.

2. Asiana Airlines
First class passengers are entitled to a 40kg (88lbs) baggage allowance. In business class, the maximum weight is 30kg (66lbs). Allowance for travel class is 20kg (44lbs).

Special baggage rules are applied to flights on U.S. Routes. For first and business class, baggage should be either under 32kg (70lbs) or within the dimension of 158cm (2 items). In travel class, passengers are allowed 2 checked bags provided the weight of each piece is under 23kg (50lbs) or the dimension is less than 158 cm each. And, the sum of the two bags' size should not exceed 273cm.
