Nowadays, the travel by air is routinely used because the passengers can reach their destinations faster than ever.
However, the change in air pressure due to flying in the air may affect the health conditions of passengers and cause stress and physical fatigue. Airline companies should offer special travel assistance for disabilities, expectant mothers, infant, children, unaccompanied minors, travelers with pets and etc.

Janpanese airline companies are famous for their courteous and considerate services in all aspects, including in-flight services and on ground services. Besides, they also do a good job in special travel assistance. Their aim is to see their work from the standpoint of their customers, come up with new ideas to fit the passengers' needs, and thereby provide better services.

For Disabilities
Since the needs of disabled passengers vary enormously from person to person, passengers with disabilities have a various needs for special assistance. They are the best judges of the services they need.

Furthermore, airline companies recommend that passengers with disabilities should let they know their information in advance. The airline companies in Japan provide wheelchairs which are handy for assisting elderly or physically disabled passengers to visit the lavatory. On April 9, 2005, this service became available on all JAL Group aircraft serving domestic and international routes. Now, large 200-kg specification wheelchairs and full reclining wheelchairs for serious walking disabilities are available. In addition, JAL has made easy communication notepads available to passengers with hearing or speaking disabilities.

For Expectant Mothers & Unaccompanied Minors
As for the expectant mothers and passengers with babies, JAL offers mama & baby Odekake Guide (only in Japanese), loan of strollers, priority seating and boarding. JAL also provides priority seating, guidance to the arrival lounge upon loading and original JAL toys for children who are traveling alone.

Special Travel Assistance for Infant & Children
For safety reason, an adult traveling with two infants under 2 years of age will be required to use an infant seat for one infant. The passengers can bring their own infant seat, or they may use the airline companies' Infant Seat Rental Service if they do not have one. As regards JAL, for international flights, infant under 2 years of age must be accompanied by an Adult who may request the infant seat. For domestic flights, infant under 3 years old must travel with an adult who may ask for the infant seats. The service is also available for children with physical disabilities and have sitting difficulty. In order to use this service, passengers and accompanying infants are required to hold confirmed reservations, and infants must purchase the applicable child fare.

JAL also supplies bassinettes which are ideal for infants weighing up to 10 kg. For baby up to 8 months, JAL offers 2 choices of bottled baby food, one airplane spoon, a cloth bib and a straw. And for baby aged 9 months or older, JAL offers tomato-flavored fried rice, mixed vegetables in a cream sauce, a banana, a jello, a piece of bread and a bag of crackers. Besides, there are many toys for children, such as plastic models, blocks, stuffed animals, rulers and so on.

For Travelers with Pets
Pets traveling with Japan Airlines will be accommodated in the cargo compartment of the aircraft. Passengers don't need to worry about their pets because the utmost care will be taken by Japan Airlines staff to ensure that their pets travel safely. The air is well circulated and the temperature in the cargo hold is maintained. JAL also wraps crates with air cushion rolls, while allowing for ventilation, and takes other measures to ensure a safe in-flight environment for the pets. As for Certified Service Animals (guide dogs, signal dogs, and assist dogs), they will be allowed to accompany their owner in the passenger cabin. Please note that advanced reservations are required for the service animal.
