Packing for a trip these days can be challenging, and particularly so on long hauls, because there are a bit too many essentials - the Laptop, the iPod, a digital camcorder perhaps and chargers for each of them individually.
Quite some stuff and to get them all into a bag strong and sturdy enough to take the trip. Here are a few tips to help you.

Lightweight luggage

The luggage market has kept pace with all the latent developments and they have recognized the need of the traveler. Light weight luggage is their contribution to making your trip that much more comfortable.

Most of the light weight luggage is made out of ballistic nylon and does offer value for money in terms of durability, resilience to tough conditions and handling ease. Lightweight luggage may not save you several hundred dollars a trip on excess baggage charges. The size of the bag remains the same and the savings can come only from the tare weight of your bag. The difference in weight between the lightest bag and the heaviest, like in the case of ABS plastic typically does not go beyond a few kilograms. But, the light weight luggage is more flexible and easier to manage. Your own skill in packing for your trip however can potentially save you some money.

1. Consider replacing laptops with mobile hard disks

Light weight luggage is generally the choice of business travelers. Since most hotels these days offer rooms with connectivity, a mobile storage device can comfortably replace your laptop saving a few kilograms. The mobile hard disk will allow you to carry your office virtually wherever you go.

2. All season clothing

The next factor influencing the weight of the luggage is the type of clothing you would carry. Instead of packing multiple pieces of thick clothing, try using lighter clothing and use layers when the need arises.

3. Carrying shoes

Consider the number of pairs you should have. 3 pairs for a week can be considered luxury. You can also store tiny materials into the shoes or pack ladies shoes right into the men's so that you save that extra space.

4. Daily needs

Toiletries in sample sizes can save considerable space otherwise occupied by bottles. If you are traveling as a couple, consider splitting the daily needs into two equal parts and packing them in each partner's luggage so that a lost or delayed baggage causes minimum hardship.
