The topic of luggage and baggage is actually a hotly-debated one throughout the world. It is commonplace to watch the different kinds of luggage whirl around on the carousel and wonder whose bag is whose!

There is, of course the stereotypes of the luggage world; if you have a top-of-the-range designer three piece set you must be rich or famous (or both!). If you have the middle-of-the-range holdall, you must be a blue-collar workaholic who spends his life waiting on delayed flights. Then there is the discount luggage group. This belongs to the poorest families in Britain who are returning from their cheap Torremolinos package holiday.

These are indeed misguided stereotypes that are slowly being eradicated, hopefully forever. You see, the world is now realising that discount luggage does not mean that you are poor- just wiser with your money. We will always have the uber-rich and famous with the diamond-encrusted baggage, but most of us are making a great impression with our thrifty purchases that does the job just as well.

Especially in the current global crisis of recessions and "credit crunches", discount luggage sets are becoming more appealing to even more people across the social spectrum. This is partly due to us watching the money we spend, but also that businesses are fighting tooth and nail for our custom. They will undercut each other as much as possible to get us to walk through their doors-and walk back out again with our arms full to the gunnels!

Discounted luggage is not a new phenomenon however. Many working-class people, such as myself, have had the previous generation (or two) pass on some pearls of wisdom regarding money and thriftiness. Saving money is something that is instilled in us from an early age. I personally, now as an adult, still have this in my mind as I shop around to find the best deals for great luggage.

The stance of many a seasoned traveller is that discount luggage cannot be made as well as high quality or designer baggage. This is simply not the case; many of the materials that are used in the making of "high-quality" luggage items is exactly the same stuff as that in the discount baggage ranges. And if for some reason it does break, then you will not have to break the bank to buy a new set.

Consumers are the most important commodity that a manufacturer or business has; it therefore makes sense to ensure that their products are durable, versatile and value for money. This rule applies for discount baggage products as much as it does for anything else we need to buy.

All in all, the circumstances of today's world and a shift in attitudes are helping us all to realise that discounted does not mean cheap or poorly crafted. So go and buy that lovely three piece discounted baggage set with your head held high- you are now creating a good impression!
