How to clean designer hobo bags properly?

Hobo bags are very practical and versatile.
They are fashionable and large enough to hold all needed essentials. Hobo bags usually have a slouchy top and adjustable shoulder straps. As for designer hobo bags, they are not only the fashion accessories, but luxury investments. Proper maintenance can keep them in good condition for a longer time. The first step is to clean them properly. Bear in mind the following steps.

Designer hobo bags come in two main categories: leather hobo bags and canvas hobo bags.

- Leather Hobo Bags

1) Remove stains on the surface

Dip a cotton ball in soapy water solution. Rub the stains with the cotton ball gently for several times until the stains are removed completely.

2) Wipe out the whole outside surface

Use clean wet cloth to wipe out any dust on the surface, including any left soapy water of the cotton ball. Then use dry cloth rubbing up and down in order. Make sure the bag is clean and dry.

3) Check the lining

Most leather hobo bags have cloth linings which can be washed. Just take out the lining and put into the mild soapy water. Rinse the lining and get the soapy water fully washed away. Then wring out the lining and dry it in a good-ventilated place.

- Canvas Hobo Bags

1) Read the washing instructions

Before cleaning the canvas bag, read the washing instructions carefully to make sure what kind of detergent can be used and whether the bag needs ironing after washing. Then prepare a solution for the cleaning. Mild soapy water is ok for most canvas.

2) Remove everything from the bag

Canvas hobo bags tent to have many pockets. Remember to empty the bag before cleaning, taking everything out of the bag, both in the pockets and compartments.

3) Immerse the bag into solution

Put the bag into the soapy water for about half an hour. Let the detergent dissolve the stains and dirt. Rinse the bag with plenty of water.

4) Dry the bag in a cool location

Do not put the bag in the sunshine, which may cause color fade to the fabrics. Dry the bag in a cool place.
