What are the main types of airports?

An airport is a location where airplanes and helicopters takeoff and land.
There is at least one hangar for building and serving airplanes and helicopter at an airport. See below and discover different types of airports.

International Airport

An international airport should have customs and immigration facilities, handling international flights to and from other countries. This kind of airport is generally larger and features longer runways. Many international airports are also homes of non-direct flights, and passengers can switch planes there.

Domestic Airport

Domestic airport serve as "hubs" where handles domestic flights to and from the cities and counties of the country. This kind of airport is common in the USA. However, domestic airports and international airport share more and more similarities today. The similarities include checked more frequently and procedures for screening passengers.

Military Airport

Generally speaking, a military airport offers basing and support of military aircrafts. Some military airfields provide facilities similar to those of civilian airports. Some military airports also combine use of civilian airports, sharing the same runways, taxiways, emergency services and so on, but with different terminals, hangars, parking areas and shelter areas.

Heliport

Heliport is a small airport used only by helicopters. It occupies only 1 tile, with at least one helipad. Facilities include fuel, lighting and windsock. In large cities and towns, heliports may have hangars and custom facilities.
