How to pick pin tumbler locks?

Category: Locks

Lock picking learning is not just for burglars. Every one needs to unlock a lock at least once in his / her lifetime.
Getting to know some lock picking knowledge can really save you from awkward situations.

- Reconfirm you need to do this

Reconfirmation is not superfluous. Ask yourself or other people occupying the locked property if the lock really needs to be picked, as it happens that the key just pops up after the lock destroyed.

- Approach and understand how your lock works

A household lock is usually a pin tumbler one. Know exactly how the pin and cylinder work before you actually get started. You can also determine what tool you may need afterwards at the same time.

- Get what you need to pick the lock

To pick a pin tumbler lock, a pick and a tension wrench are two common tools involved in the process. Picks are long to reach into locks to push pins up. And tension wrenches are used to turn the lock cylinder.

- Use tools to push all pins in the correct way

To do, you have to first insert the tension wrench into keyhole to create a light ledge in the pin shafts. Then you can insert a pick into keyhole and begin to reposition all pins. You will hear slight clicks when the pin falls correctly.

- Unlock after all pins are set

Use a tension wrench to do that. After all the pins are set to correct positions, you can then turn the cylinder and unlock the lock.
