Which is the most famous antique trunk manufacturer?

No matter you're male or female, old or young, you must have heard of LV, although you might not know that the accomplishments of this French fashion giant began from trunk manufacturing.

Louis Vuitton began to make high-quality traveling trunks since 1854. LV was the first to make flat-top trunks which are famous for being stackable. Then its trunks began to have a rounded top to promote water runoff.

During more than 150 years' development, LV always applied innovative designs and industry leading craftsmanship on its trunks. Here are two fine examples:

A ladies' hat trunk was designed from 1910 to keep hats safe and sound during long-haul travels. It can store up to six medium-sized hats and hold their shapes perfectly.

In 1914, a special design was made complying with the requests of shipping companies. A cabin trunk was specially made to fit under a traveler's bed space.

The most valuable wardrobe and flat top trunks by far were made by the LV Company. They're rarely used for travel now, instead they're more likely a piece of history for you to collect.

Clues for you to spot authentic LV

- Antique trunks have lots of solid brass trim and lots of LVs in or on them.

- Most trunks have a large manufacturer's sticker inside the lid.

- Some vintage trunks have a round patch for personalized embossing.

- Vintage pieces of LV use Talon and Eclair zipper pulls.

- Date Code is important for recent LV bags but not so much for the older pieces.
