How to file a claim for baggage loss?

It is suggested to purchase travel insurance when you are planning to go on a trip.
Travel insurance would cover you for any mishap that you might encounter during your trip. As policies of insurance companies always include lost luggage insurance, you can file claims when your luggage happens to be lost.

1. Call the airline as soon as possible when your luggage is declared lost by the airline.

2. Try to make clear all the requirements of the lost luggage claim as well as the deadline to submit it. If you fail to submit the claim on time, it would not be processed.

3. Read the guideline of the insurance company and keep their lost baggage policy in mind.

4. Ask the insurance company to handle your missing baggage and you would receive a claim form several days later.

5. Fill out the claim form carefully and don't forget to attach a list of all your personal valuables packed in your lost luggage. Figure out the value of each item inside of the luggage and add them to the list as well.

6. Remember to send the insurance company a receipt for checked luggage fee along with the claim. Prepare some supporting documentation if you have any.

7. Send the claim, receipt and supporting documentation to the insurance company and stay in touch with them to ensure your claim is handled.

Additional advice

Insurance companies and airlines might have claim forms available on their website, so you can fill out and submit them online.

Sometimes, you would be asked to send the claim along with your airline ticket and baggage check as well. So, keep these items in good condition until you've got compensation for your lost luggage.
