How to install a pocket door?

Now, it is a fashion for most people to have a pocket door installed in their home.
As pocket doors are built into the wall, they are able to save much space in houses. Installing a pocket door is not as complicated as it looks. Follow these steps when you install pocket doors.

Materials you should prepare:

Pocket door hardware kit, pocket doors, casing and framing lumber, tape measure, hammer and construction adhesive.

Steps to install pocket doors:

1. Choose the right pocket door hardware kit. Be sure to pick the right pocket door kit and durable hardware.

2. Measure door frame. Measure each edge of the pocket door with a tape measurement. Remember to keep the header leveled and the opening plumb when measuring.

3. Use a handsaw to cut a pocket track as well as a door header from the casing lumber. Make sure that they would fit the length of the opening of the door.

4. Check your pocket door kit to find brackets and fasteners. Use them to assemble door track and header to the frame.

5. If there are any construction adhesives, use them to fasten the door header and track.

6. Find out the door bumper from the door kit and fix it to the rear of the pocket door.

7. Attach wheels to the bottom of the pocket door and make sure the door would operate without rubbing and noise.

8. Put the hangers onto the door track and hang the pocket door.

9. Hang drywall to cover the opening area of the door and smooth seams or joints on the frame with drywall tape.

10. Fasten the head jambs and door casings with a screw.
