How to sew pockets to a handbag?

Handbags come with several compartments and pockets, but the number of pockets inside or outside of a handbag is determined by the manufacture.
Have you ever complained that there aren't enough pockets to hold items separately or keep them organized? Adding custom-designed pockets to a handbag is as easy as patching a hole on your clothes.

Items you will need:Fabric, sewing machine, scissors, iron and tape measure.

Steps to sew pockets:

1. Let's begin the sewing process by focusing on the size of pocket you would like to sew on your handbag. Making clear what you are going to put into the pocket would be greatly helpful for you to figure out the size of the pocket.

2. Use a tape measure to measure the edge of these items, and write down the length and width. Then cut a rectangular from the fabric according to the length and width and make sure there is at least 1 inch left on each edge.

3. Fold the fabric in half, and then fold the left, right as well as the top side over about a half inch. Set your iron to the appropriate setting and hold it over the edge for several seconds to create creases on each edge.

4. Sew a row of stitches all around the left and right side according to the crease found on each edge. Trim the excess fabric.

5. Iron the pocket to make it wrinkle-free.

6. Turn your handbag inside out. Lay the lining of the handbag flat on the table and have the side which you intend to sew the pocket to facing you.

7. Place the pocket flat on area where you plan to stitch it to. Stitch the top of the pocket to the lining and then sew back to create a double stitch on the top edge. Make sure about 1/4 inch has been left on the edge.

Iron the seams to make it smooth after stitching the pocket firmly onto the lining.
