What are tips for choosing winter cycling apparel?

Cycling is one of the most favorite outworks for many people.
If you just do it in seasons other than winter, it is not a big deal. But many cyclists are planning to ride all year round in order to keep fit and build good body shape.

Are you lost in choosing right apparel for winter cycling? The purpose of picking proper winter cycling apparel is to keep you warm and dry, which will make your cycling as funny and exiting as done in summer.

Pay attention to clothes

You should consider layers of clothes which are convenient for you to take off when sweating. Put soft and sweat-wicking clothes as your base layer which will keep you warm and dry. Polypropylene, wool, silk and synthetic fabrics are proper choices. For middle insulation layer, your choice can be fleece which can trap heat and keep you warm. Select outer layer clothes which are breathable, waterproof and windproof to protect you from rain, snow and other humid elements.

Take care of your head

You must wear a helmet for safety no matter when you ride. But don't forget to put something warm under the helmet in winter, such as a balaclava, ski face mask, or headband and so on. Also don't ignore you neck, eyes, nose and ears. You can choose scarves, cycling glasses, beanies or balaclavas for protections.

Don't forget you hands

Hands are easily going numb in winter even in mild winter. Full-finger gloves work well in keeping your hands warm. Choose gloves with two layers. Inner layer made from wool, fleece or other fabrics can keep your fingers warm and out layer made from waterproof and windproof materials can protect you from harsh elements. Make sure that your gloves are not too thick for you to handle brakes and shifters flexibly.

Take your feet into consideration

Warm and cozy socks and shoes play an important role in cycling in chilly winter. Don't forget to choose moisture-wicking socks which will keep your feet dry. There are two options concerning shoes: cycling shoes specially designed and shoe covers. You might wear thick socks inside, so don't wear shoes that is tight for you since it is uncomfortable for you to ride.
