How much baggage is allowed on American Airlines per passenger?

American Airlines is a leading airline of the USA and second-largest airline in the world in terms of passenger fleet size and operating revenues.
If you are traveling on American Airlines, there are a few rules you should comply with. Read on and you will know how much baggage is allowed on American Airlines per passenger.

Carry-on Baggage

One bag plus one personal item are permitted as carry on baggage per passenger. The maximum size of carry-on bag is no more than 45 inches/114cm combining length, width and height. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin with the measurements less than 22" long * 14" wide * 9" tall.

Personal Items

Small backpack purse, briefcase, laptop bag, similar item like book bag or tote - All these personal items should be stowed under the seat with the maximum size of 36 inches combing length, width and height.

Additional Items

- Outwear (like coats and hats), pillow or blanket

- Book/newspaper, small bag of food to eat on the flight

- Approved safety seat for lap or ticketed kid, umbrella stroller for lap or ticketed kid, diaper bag for lap or ticketed kid

- Assistive devices for passengers (like wheelchairs and walkers), therapeutic oxygen provided by the airline

Checked Baggage

Checked luggage of 62 linear inches is a maximum size restriction for American Airlines. A checked-in piece of luggage typically cannot exceed 50 pounds. Over 50 pounds/62 inches per bag will incur an "overweight" extra fee. For passengers in first and business class, they are allowed to check three bags at no cost. Economy class customers will be charged for their checked bags.
