How to choose a baby blanket?

Baby blankets are a must for little kids.
Choosing the right blanket for a baby is very important. It can provide babies with security, warmth and comfort. When shopping for a new baby blanket, there are points you should consider.

- Materials

Baby blankets come in various materials like cotton, muslin, wool, fleece etc. You should choose the material according to the average temperatures in the baby's room. A natural fiber (like light weight cotton) blanket is a good choice. Muslin is also good material for baby blankets.

Plus: Make sure not to buy a knitted or crocheted blanket that is loosely woven with large holes, because baby's fingers may be able to get through the holes.

- Types

Baby blankets have three main types: flat ones, swaddling ones and receiving ones. Flat blankets are usually used to cover the baby when going out to prevent the wind. Swaddling ones are used to cover a baby when he/she is sleeping. Receiving ones are generally for newborns. They are soft and lightweight, placed around the baby for warmth or used to swaddle. Choose the type according to your needs.

- Size

Check the measurements of the blanket listed on the packing clearly. It is worse to buy a blanket larger or smaller than you were hoping for. If it is not for a newborn, you can buy one a bit larger.

NOTE: Baby blankets will get dirty easily. So wash them frequently. The Consumer Product Commission advises that babies had better sleep in sleep sacks or blanket sleepers instead of using blankets.
