1. Material
Tote bags, according to their different purposes, are primarily made of two kinds of material. When the bag is designed for everyday use, light material is usually adopted, such as nylon and vinyl. If it is designed for traveling, leather is the most common material for its durability.

2. Size
The size of tote bag also depends on its purpose. For traveling use, the tote should be large enough to store all necessary stuff. And for everyday use, like shopping, a medium sized tote or a small sized one is a good choice.

3. Bag handles
Generally, on tote bag, two short handles are designed for your easy and firm grasp. In addition, a removable shoulder strap is available on some traveling tote bags. Therefore, you can conveniently carry the tote even though both of your hands are occupied. And being removable, the strap will not reduce the beauty of the tote bag.

4. Safety
With an open top, a tote bag may cause safety problem.
So it is recommended that you choose the one with a button in the center of the mouth. And a better choice is the bag with zipper, as it can tightly keep every single piece of items inside the bag.

If you are afraid of your bag getting mixed with other bags at airport, you can choose a tote with a name card, or with a distinctive pattern, so that you can find it easily and quickly.
