The Pros and Cons of Hardside Luggage

Hardside luggage has seen great popularity these days with more people setting out traveling and more models being made available.
However, every coin has two sides, and hardside luggage is no exception, as a result of which, when purchasing hardside luggage, you need to take both its advantages and disadvantages into consideration.

Pros

1. Ultimate protection for the interior contents. Hardside luggage features rigid shell which is made generally from aluminum or polycarbonate and which can withstand plenty of wear and tear without any increase in the chance of damage. The rigid shell will not bend or decompress even if several other bags are put on top of it. This can effectively protect the contents from any damages, which matters a lot for fragile and valuable items.

2. Lightweight design. For frequent airplane travelers, it is very important that they carry light luggage since many airlines charge additional fee for luggage that surpasses the specified weight limit. Many kinds of lightweight hardside luggage are available for sale so that travelers can get greater weight allowance for belongings.

3. Good inside and outside structure. Hardside luggage shares many features with softside luggage, like smooth-gliding wheels and retractable handles on the outside, and multiple compartments, padding, divider panels and straps inside. Besides, many colors look brighter and better in hard-side luggage than the soft case thanks to its special material.

Cons

1. Good hardside luggage is pretty expensive. Hardside luggage is typically more expensive than its softside counterparts owing largely to the material. A brand hardside luggage made from aluminum, carbon fiber, polycarbonate, plastic ABS or polypropylene usually costs a small fortune while the cheap hard case made from flimsy materials may get large cracks or holes after several uses.

2. Impossible to squeeze into small spaces. The shell of a hardside luggage is so rigid that it is very hard to put it into a small space while a soft case can be easily squeezed into, for example, an overhead compartment of a train which is smaller than the suitcase itself. This lack of flexibility causes much trouble when traveling.

3. Glossy finish will wear away quickly. A great many hardside luggage features glossy finish, which looks very nice and attractive when it is brand new. But since the glossy finish is subject to scratches, it will be worn off after several uses and the surface of the case will look ugly.
