If you are one of the guys opting to travel by air, Delta can be your airline of choice. Firstly, it has flights that can take you to almost everywhere you want to go. Secondly, it boasts professional staffs that can ensure you have a relaxing flying experience. So, what are you still waiting for? Get to know more about Delta's rules regarding check in, baggage size and fees, so that you can have everything prepared properly before flying with Delta.

What Are Check-in Options Delta Airlines Offers?

Delta takes convenience to new heights by offering passengers a few more ways to check in. In the past, you could do nothing but wait until you arrived at the airport, in order to get your boarding pass. However, things have changed a lot today.

You can use Delta's Online Check-in to download an eBoarding Pass to your mobile device or print it out any time within 24 hours of your flight. Delta's online ticket counter allows you to book air tickets, check flight status and get your boarding pass more quickly than ever.

How to use Delta's Online Check-in?

Visit delta.com and click the "Check In" on the left side. Type in your confirmation, SkyMiles, credit/debit card or the eTicket number and the name of your airport, then click the button labeled "CHECK IN". You will be able to print or download your boarding pass right after submitting the number of passengers and bags. If you choose to go paperless, make sure eBoarding Pass is accepted at your airport.

Mobile Check-in is also a nice choice. If you get a PDA or web-enabled phone, install the Delta App to make your flying even more convenient and rewarding. This free travel app not only lets you check the latest flight, terminal and gate information, but also helps you check in and download your boarding pass.

How to take advantage of Delta's Mobile Check-in?

Simply select the "eBoarding Pass" check-in option after accessing your itinerary and type in your phone number or email address. Within minutes, your eBoarding Pass will be sent to your inbox or mobile phone.

Well, if you prefer not to use the web to obtain your boarding pass, try Airport Kiosk Check-in. It is a good way to get you out of the long line at the ticket counter and streamline your airport check-in experience. Generally, every airport has a number of internet kiosks located throughout the terminals. So, you will complete your check-in process with a few presses on the kiosk screen and reach your gate faster than ever.

Do you know that you can even check in before stepping foot in the airport? Delta's Airport Curbside Check-in makes it possible. Simply pull up to the curb, hand your check baggage along with your photo ID and confirmation or eTicket number to the Skycaps and they will print the boarding pass for you. Then you will be able to head directly to security.

What Are Security Check-in Requirements You Are Expected to Meet?

Delta always tries its best to make your check-in process as fast and efficient as possible. Its multiple check-in options can help you avoid long lines and fly through the airport. Plus, the airline recommends you to meet a few security check-in requirements, so that any delay can be prevented.

What is the best time to arrive at the airport? Your trip will be less stressful if you try getting to the airport a little earlier than your preferred check in time. And Delta does require passengers without baggage to arrive at the airport at least 30 minutes before departure. In the case that you bring several bags, 45 to 60 minutes are suggested.

For those traveling to non-U.S. cities, the minimum required baggage security check-in time will be 90 to 120 minutes. Plus, you must be at the boarding gate 45 to 60 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. If you are about to fly to Accra, Ghana, it's better to reach the airport approximately 3 hours in advance, since you are required to get to the boarding gate 2 hours before departure.

What you will need to bring? Knowing what type of ID you should bring will also help you speed up the check-in process. If you are going to travel within the United States, including Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, remember to bring with you an unexpired photo ID issued by local or federal government. Passport, driver's license or military ID is accepted.

Passport is now a necessity for any international travel, but whether you need a travel visa or not will depend on your destination country. It's advisable for you to contact your local embassy to learn more about foreign entry requirements and what travel documents you will need.

What to Know about Delta's Baggage Policy?

When it comes to flying, bigger baggage is definitely not better. And we all know that.
However, we might still have to carry several bags even though we try hard to keep things at a minimum. Don't worry! It won't be a problem no matter how many bags you have as long as you pack them properly as required.

Delta allows each passenger to bring one carry-on baggage and a personal item at no charge. Normally, personal carry-on item can be a purse, briefcase, camera bag or laptop computer and so on. Also, you can carry on a jacket, duty free merchandise or special item like child restraint seat. Notice that both your carry-on bag and personal item should be easily fitted into the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. Therefore, make sure your carry-on baggage is no larger than 22" x 14" x 9" (or 56 x 36 x 23 cm).

Additional bags need to be checked and fees will occur. In general, each of your checked bags should be less than 50 lbs (23 kg) and not exceed 62 linear inches (or 157 cm) in combined length, width and height. But in some occasions, you might be allowed to bring bags lighter than 70 lbs (32 kg).

You are strongly recommended to check your baggage and pay the fees quickly and easily online, within 24 hours of your departure. Then you can simply drop off your checked bags at the curbside check-in station or the closest baggage drop (with red signage saying "Baggage Drop"), without having to drag them across the crowded airport. Of course, you can also choose to check your baggage at the airport kiosk, ticket counter or curbside if you don't mind paying higher checked baggage fees.

On any Delta flights, people traveling in business class can check two pieces of baggage up to 70 lbs free of charge. For those flying within the United States and Canada, three free checked bags are allowed. As for economy class passengers, the first check bag might also be free, but the second one will be charged 40 to 60 USD/CAD/EUR.

Note: If you are flying within the US and Canada or to Caribbean with an economy class ticket, your first checked bag will cost 25 USD/CAD. But if you just plan to travel around major cities in Brazil, your first and second checked bags are free regardless of your cabin class.

In the case that you need to bring more than two checked bags, take a look at the following list to know how much will be incurred for each piece of your additional baggage. But do remember, up to 10 checked bags are accepted on Delta flights, while Delta Connection carrier flights might only allow you to bring 4 total checked bags.

• It only takes 75 USD/CAD/EUR for you to carry one more bag to and from Brazil.

• The third checked bag will cost 125 USD/CAD and bag 4 to 10 will be 200 USD/CAD each, when you travel within the United States (including Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico), between the US and Canada, between the US/Canada and Mexico, Central America, Caribbean or fly within/between Mexico, Central America and Caribbean.

• Except for your first two bags, each piece of your checked baggage will be charged 200 USD/CAD/EUR, when you fly between Europe and Mexico, Central America and Caribbean, to and from South America, between United States/Canada and Europe, to/from/between Middle East, Africa and Australia, between Latin America, Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe or to/from/within Asia.

Extra fees will apply to overweight and oversized baggage. Delta strives to accommodate different baggage needs, but the airline charges bags that do not meet the standard size or weight restrictions. It's quite notable that exceeding size, weight or quantity limitation causes separate fees. Please also note that each passenger on any flights operated by Delta can only bring two pieces of excess baggage. And Delta Connection carriers might not accept your excess baggage if there is no space available.

Try to keep the weight of your luggage down, since the charge for overweight baggage will be very high. The following one-way fees will occur if your checked baggage exceeds Delta's weight restrictions:

• You will need to pay 90 USD/CAD for each of your additional bags that weighs 51 to 70 lbs, if you're about to fly within the United States and Canada. And note, bags exceeding 70 but less than 100 lbs will be 175 USD/CAD each.

• For international travelers, bags less than 70 lbs will be 75 USD/CAD/EUR each, if your flight is between United States (including Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico) or Canada and Europe, to/from/within Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean, to/from/within Asia, to/from/between Middle East, Africa, Australia and India or between Latin America, Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe. It will cost 200 USD/CAD/EUR each when the bag exceeds the standard weight. (Bags more than 70 lbs are not allowed on flights between the US/Canada and Europe.)

• No matter you travel to or from Brazil, your checked bags will not be charged as long as they meet Delta's weight limitations. However, if one of them weighs more than 70 lbs, you will end up paying 100 USD or CAD for it. Bags exceeding 100 lbs are not allowed.

It's also important to meet size limits. In regard to one-way fees applied to oversized baggage, here are the details:

• For travelers flying within/between United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or to/from/between Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia and India:

When the combined length, width and height are within 80 inches (161-203 cm), the checked baggage fee is 175 USD/CAD. But it will be 300 USD/CAD for baggage measuring 81-115 inches (204-292 cm) in combined length, width and height. Bigger bags are not allowed.

• On flights between US (including U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico ) or Canada and Mexico, Caribbean and Central/South America:

Checked bags which meet the standard size limitations only cost 150 USD or CAD, but excess bags will be 300 USD/CAD each.

• International travel to and from Brazil:

Normally, the fee is 100 USD/CAD per bag. However, each piece of checked baggage that exceeds the standard size will be charged 300 USD/CAD.
