A hard-side upright luggage is made of tough materials to ensure a strong and firm exterior.
1. Material
In the hard-side upright luggage market, polypropylene and ABS shell are the most commonly used materials. Both of them provide durability and lightness at the same time.
Aluminum shell, widely used in laptops, can also be found in the making of hard-side upright. But it is not a wise choice, because it fails in lightness.
2. Handle
There are various types of handles for you to choose. A pull handle mounted on the exterior of upright makes lifting easier, a push-button locking system allows easy one-hand operation, and a crossbar design prevents the upright from breaking when it is filled to capacity. But one thing you should bear in mind is that the handle of your upright should be sturdy and comfortable to grip.
3. Zipper
When choosing an upright, you should not neglect the quality of zipper. Zipper on hard-side upright is basically made of plastic or metal. Generally speaking, a metal zipper is stronger and more durable than a plastic one. And it will be better if a fabric frame is added to the zipper.
A good zipper works smoothly and does not easily catch on linings. Here, a zipper with larger teeth and multiple rows of locking stitches is highly recommended.
4. Wheel
Most hard-side uprights are equipped with wheels, which provide smooth and quiet rolling. In order to make the wheels more functional and convenient, modern designs are adopted.
For example, if the wheels have corner wheel design, then a multi-directional rolling is available. If a sealed ball bearing system is installed, you can keep dirt away from the wheels.
5. Warranty
If you choose a reputable manufacturer, your luggage, if broken, will be unconditionally replaced or repaired under the warranty. But some warranties only cover repairing, and problems such as scratches or soiled fabric go beyond the warranties. So you'd better read the guidelines carefully before buying the upright, and always have a backup piece of luggage no matter what warranty your bag has.
