1. Frames
The shape of luggage is determined by the frame.
2. Weight
Another factor you should consider is the weight of your luggage. The U.S. government figures show that airline revenue from excess baggage charges has grown steadily since 2002. Keep in mind that most airlines now have a weight limit for checked luggage. They do not welcome the overweight and oversized airlines luggage, because both the space and the weight are strictly limited in the air carriers. If your bag is over a certain weight limit, you may receive additional charge. In today's market, lightweight products are created to meet the weight restrictions, and they also prove to be durable.
3. Wheel System
A set of quality wheels gives you the freedom to walk and run without making too much noise or effort. Usually, the quality wheels are manufactured with durable polyurethane materials. It is necessary to choose a well-made wheel system to ensure that your luggage maintains its mobility on trips. Firstly, look for the internally mounted design, which can effectively reduce the chance of damage. You may also want to look for a large wheelbase, which can keep your bag from tipping over.
Another alternative is the one with a sealed ball bearing system. With the protection of this sealing system, the wheels will be kept away from dirt and dust. As the dirt and dust simply cannot easily get into the wheels, it decreases the heat that is caused by friction. Those having no sealing system may end up with friction in the bearings and eventual wearing-out. Besides, a larger wheel without a bearing system is also a good choice. However, no matter what materials the wheels are made of, it is best to choose the smoother and tougher ones with corner wheel designs.
If you intend to carry a laptop, choose the one with a laptop compartment design. This built-in padded compartment helps protect your laptop against shocks in your trip.
5. Retractable handle
Check if the handle is retractable. The better ones are built into a sturdy EVA housing. They provide easy maneuverability when extended out from the case, and can be stored neatly inside when not in use.
